Safety

Romero's #1 priority is SAFETY in the work place and takes great pride with our excellent safety record.  All of our field employees are provided with personal protective equipment.  Upon initial employment each employee is provided a copy of our safety policy and it is reviewed with him/her.  Foremen are trained on our Injury and Illness Prevention Program.  Each project has a job site specific Program including Activity Hazard Analysis which are reviewed with employees and subcontractors on a regular basis.  All of our Foremen and Superintendents carry certificates for the EM385 1-1 and 30 Hour OSHA. Tailgate safety meetings are held weekly with field employees and subcontractors at all job sites. Over the last 5 years, Romero has received over 20 NAVFAC Star Safety Awards and presently has an EMR of 53.

Subcontractor Safety Prequalification
Through effective evaluation of subcontractor Site Safety & Health performance and programs, ROMERO is able to significantly increase the safety and productivity of our worksites.  Screening for safety criteria at the pre-qualification stage helps to ensure that bidding subcontractor’s share ROMERO’s commitments to providing a safe workplace.

The safety evaluation is taken in consideration along with the subcontractor’s technical competence, ability to meet schedule, cost, overall financial capacity to provide the resources necessary to complete the job and meet safety liabilities, and documented appraisal from previous work with the company.  A final selection based on the results of the analysis is then made.  The evaluated contractors who did not reach the minimum qualification are given feedback as to why they did not qualify and provided information to show how, by correcting these deficiencies, they may qualify for future work.
